shomrei tzedek- the Eden Teen Experience
For rising 9th-11th grade campers
At Eden Village West, we actively work to build a community that recognizes the power of diversity in building resilience, celebrates every person for being exactly who they are, and is rooted in a culture of kindness. Our community is loving, creative, musical, deeply connected to land and each other, and lots of fun. Our hope is that campers leave us each summer feeling empowered to embody the values of Eden in their own world when they return home. We measure the success of our program not just by the transformative experiences our campers walk away with, but by what they do throughout the year with the skills, values, and knowledge they gain at camp.
This summer, our teens will have a special opportunity to take the magic of Eden to the next level, gaining the foundational skills to be change-makers and mensches (upstanding human beings) in the communities they’re a part of at home.
Shomrei Tzedek, Guardians of Justice, will take you on a journey through some of the most important topics of justice through the lens of Eden’s values, and the role that YOU can play in bringing about a more just and connected world.
Through hands-on service at camp, engaging discussion, and the option to design a service project to bring to your home community, you’ll have the summer of your life and learn the foundations of tikkun olam, repairing the world, while doing it! Together with your (soon to be) best friends and the guidance of awesome staff mentors, you will have the chance to tackle topics like climate change, racial and socioeconomic justice, housing and homelessness, and more!
Plus, you’ll have the option to continue your camp journey throughout the school year by designing and implementing a service project in your home community. With the support and mentorship of our Teen Program Coordinator, you and a cohort of your friends will gain hands-on leadership and change-maker skills and experiences throughout the 2021-2022 school year.
Join us this summer to take the values of Eden and put them into action, both in our camp community and when you return home!
The launch of Shomrei Tzedek is made possible by the Jewish Teen Education and Engagement Initiative, with support provided by the Jewish Community Federation and Endowment Fund, Jim Joseph Foundation, and additional local funders. We are grateful for their partnership in making the magic of Eden come to life!
Shomrei Tzedek will be built into our teen campers’ summer camp experience and will be happening interwoven with the rest of camp programming. Teen campers can sign up for Session 1 or Session 2 to participate. Please refer to our dates & rates page for exact dates.
If you want to continue your learning after the summer, you’ll have the option of designing and implementing a service learning project in your home community. You’ll meet once a month with the Teen Program Coordinator from the summer for continued learning and to support your friends as they design their projects. Additionally, you’ll receive one on one mentorship from the Teen Program Coordinator, who will be there to support you as you roll out your new project.
Yes! While Shomrei Tzedek will be the overarching theme of your session, you’ll still be spending much of your camp day in all of our specialty program areas. Please check out our program page to learn more about our robust camp program offerings.
Nope! Come with an open mind and heart, and we’re excited to guide you through a summer experience unlike any other.
We are exploring many fun options for our teen program this summer, including:
Teen Takeover Day: Want to bring the magic of camp to life, for your peers and for our camp community? Our teens will spend one day of their session running the show, and making day of camp happen!
Emcee Share: Share, our unconditionally loving talent show, is an opportunity for everyone in our community to showcase something they love and be showered with roaring applause for being exactly who they are. We’re in search for the best emcees to help us run the show, and we think our teens could take this to the next level!
